Since 1966

After years of working for an elevator company in Atlanta, James R. Thomas (Jim) decided to go into business for himself. Work trips to Southwest Georgia and the good people he met there left a lasting impression, so when the time came, Jim chose Albany as home for his business and his family. Phoebe Memorial Hospital signed on as a client, allowing Jim to open up shop with his wife, Nancy, in 1966.

Jim’s youngest son Gary W. Thomas returned home from college in 1978 to work for the family business. He trained for 10 years before Jim’s retirement in 1988.

Private investment partners purchased the business and owned it for six years, while Gary still managed the day-to-day operations.  In 1998, Gary purchased the company.

Today, Albany Elevator Service, Inc. is a well-known name throughout the region, installing and servicing small residential elevators, tall industrial elevators, and providing maintenance and service to universities and medical centers across the state – including Mercer University and Albany State University.

Gary W. Thomas and the skilled service technicians and professionals at Albany Elevator maintain a reputation of integrity, experience, and expertise unparalleled in the elevator industry.
